Targeted, Displaced, Erased.
Across the world, people who convert to Christianity face persecution, but some are even more vulnerable. Women, young people and the displaced often face multiple layers of persecution.
Because Ariana* is a woman and converted to Christianity she is targeted, dispaced and erased.
In Afghanistan and Central Asian countries, women like Ariana are vulnerable not only for their faith but also their gender. Even when they flee to neighbouring countries, the threats don't stop, compounding their vulnerability. They are targets for religious persecution (from family, community or the state e.g. forced marriage), legal discrimination (apostasy law, deportation) and social exclusion (denied housing, employment).
You can help protect women like Ariana
Write to your MP to ask them to urge the government to include freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) in the next Human Rights and Democracy Report.
Why it matters
Holds the Goverment accountable: The report is debated in Parliament, and documents the UK's global human rights work.
Drives real change: Civil society organisations like Open Doors use it to provide actionable recommendations to protect vulnerable people.
By advocating for the inclusion of FoRB in this report, we help protect the lives, dignity and freedoms of converts like Ariana worldwide.
